Music Society

Predating the Partnership, the first reference to music is found in the Gazette of 1918, with Spedan Lewis encouraging the staff in the Peter Jones hostel to take singing lessons and arrange concerts. A choir was formed in 1925 and by 1938 the Committee for Music had become known as the Music Society.

Despite a break during the War the Society was very active in participating and also sponsoring the creation of new musical works, including the world premiere of the opera “The Tunnel” which was first performed in 1960.

The Partnership’s musical range has now expanded to provide opportunities for Partners in all locations to participate in musical activities.
