Medals galore for Rifle Club boys

Rifle Club Chairman Kim Hayes reported on their latest triumphs.

“During the Summer, Waitrose Rifle Club entered a team of five shooters into the Surrey Postal Team League. This was a competition the Riffle Club had not entered before, and they were one of 35 teams taking part. After months of hard-fought competition during which 50 cards worth 100 points each were shot, Waitrose won their division – dropping only 191 points from the 5,000 available.

Team members were awarded specially minted gold medals which featured an image of the Millennium Dome – to reflect that this was millennium year.

Having won their division, the Waitrose team then shot for the prestigious Lord Pirie Cup, competing against the other six division winners. Only 11 points were dropped from a possible 500 and the team members were delighted to not only carry off the cup, but to receive individual shields as permanent mementos of their victory. The competition from the solid silver Lord Pirie Cup has been running since 1914, and for the Waitrose Rifle Club to win so handsomely at their first attempt, is a wonderful achievement”.
