Modern bathroom technology has had an enormous effect on people’s lives. As recently as the 1950s and the 1960s, many working class people in Britain had no indoor toilet or bathroom. Power showers are even more modern.
Most people in Britain over the age of 40 can remember the days when bath night took place once a week. There were no showers in most houses and no modern boilers to heat water. Filling a bath was much more expensive than taking a shower, so cost was a problem, too.
Today, in an effort to conserve water, companies are designing toilets that recycle wastewater from the sink into the tank or low flush models that use only about 1.6 gallons of water.
