Rowena Brown - cartoonist and musician

The pages are copied from a Gazette issue from 1974, written and illustrated by Rowena Brown, who was then the cartoonist for the Gazette.
The photo shows Rowena fronting the folk band “Barley Wine” in a national contest. Having lost contact with Rowena, I wonder if any Partners know of her whereabouts or contact information. If so please feel free to tell her that Steve Simmons would like her to contact, as I have some feedback re the band members, and the “patched up double bass” to which her article referred. I hope you enjoy this bit of one Partner’s history!

  • I used to work in the same office as Rowena as the secretary to the then editor of the Gazette and would love to get in touch with her again! I still have some of her cartoons that she drew for me too and I remember going to see the band play (at Knebworth, I seem to remember). If you have managed to find her, please tell her to contact Stephanie.
